I started drawing in 2000 by taking several studio
courses at the National Academy of Design in New York
City. Those classes, along with visits to museum
exhibitions featuring drawings by old masters such as
Rubens, Watteau, and Greuze, kindled my personal
interest in draftsmanship.
Since that time I have taken courses at the Florence
Academy and Angel Academy in Florence, Italy. Both
ateliers specialize in traditional representational
art. The excitement we feel as viewers when comparing
our individual knowledge of familiar subjects to the selectivity
of a particular drawing has always fascinated me.
This combination of the recognizable and the new
provides one of the distinctive charms of realist art.
I live in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and regularly take classes at the Bemis
School of Art at the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center. Selections from the
first twelve drawings found on this web site were on display during the summer
of 2007 at two Colorado Springs city libraries, courtesy of the Pikes Peak
Library District. Selections from the most recent twelve drawings added to the
site have been chosen for library display during the summer of 2008.
